Mark Twain in Nikola Tesla’s Lab

This badass pic comes to TOE from the spring of 1894. Over the course of their lives, Tesla and Twain grew to be close friends, a documented fact that I was unaware of.
Another tidbit I didn’t know: Tesla died a pauper despite his inventions; apparently the world of money money money didn’t interest him as much as electromagnetism and bringing about the Second Industrial Revolution.
I can’t say for certain, but perhaps this badass pic planted the seed for the steampunk graphic novel, The Five Fists of Science, in which
Nikola Tesla, Mark Twain and Bertha von Suttner combine forces to try to bring about world peace through superior firepower.

Money only interested tesla as far as it would allow him to continue his science. Unfortunately, his best inventions (namely, zero-point energy and wireless power) were of a nature that could not make its investors any money, so no one invested in his work. If someone had invested in his work, I imagine most of what has been written in “science fiction” books would have already become a past reality for us.
wow, this is a beautiful photo. where did you find it? i’d love to find a high res copy to print out.
I found it on Wikipedia, so the best available copy that I know of is 727 × 918 pixels:
