It’s the end of 2015.
I only get 11 hrs to write about 2015 during 2015.
It seems like I started too soon.
Once I wrote for the entire duration of a flight from Austin to Miami.
The notebook is somewhere around here.
Bridget would sneak a glimpse every now and then of what I wrote.
The guy next to her, in the aisle seat, seemed wary of my presence.
I didn’t speak with him.
No eye contact.
Not because of anything.
2.5 hrs of writing.
2.5 hrs of shutting myself off to the rest of the world while surrounded by the rest of the world.
It was a certain kind of paradise.
Every now and then I’d pause with my pen above the notebook and stare out the window at the wing at the clouds at the sun and the sky and the black of space.
I’m grateful for all of 2015.
Some parts are easier to be grateful for than others.
But they all fit together.
For 2016 I’m going to live every second with this somewhere in my mind:
There can be no peace as long as there is grinding poverty, social injustice, inequality, oppression, environmental degradation and as long as the weak and small continue to be down-trodden by the mighty and powerful. -Dalai Lama, 1989
Cheers to Bernie Sanders being the next POTUS.
Happy New Year’s everyone.
We love you.
