Kurt Vonnegut Quote

the_liberal

If God were alive today he would’ve been atheist because the excrement has hit the air-conditioning big time. Big Time. And so it has, Jesus, what a mess. You know, “A Man Without a Country.” This isn’t my country, I don’t want to have a country with the reputation of this one, and the behavior of it. Worst public schools of any industrialized nation, the highest drop-out rate, the highest teenage pregnancy rate, and utter indifference to how the lower classes are going. The millionaires and billionaires are the only people who have representation in our government now. We pretend to have two parties but it’s one party, financed by millionaires and billionaires. Republicans and the Democrats fight, pretend to fight, they argue to really be angry and everything, but their both very well paid to pretend to fight and actually not to make any trouble for the possessors of great wealth. This has become such a humorless time, if nobody thought it was funny that in the last election we had to choose between two members of Skull and Bones at Yale. Nobody found this weird at all. A population of 300 million.

-Kurt Vonnegut on Bookworm (2006)

*George W. Bush and John Kerry were both Skull and Bones members at Yale. They ran against each other in the United States presidential election of 2004.
