Student shows me a gold coin from his pocket.
“They gave it to me at the Tiger Mart.”
“Oh yeah,” I say.
“It’s a dollar.” he says.
He turns the coin over then reads it.
“John Tyler,” he says, “who’s John Tyler?”
“I don’t know,” I say.
“Was he a president?”
“I’m terrible at history,” I say.
“Right,” he says, “me too.”
At lunch the only thing I forgot at home was a ceramic bowl to microwave my food, which Bridget cooked.
Shepherd’s Pie tastes great warm and almost-as-great cold.
As I’m eating and scrolling my iPhone 4, I boot Google Currents and the first thing I see is Mental Floss because I was looking at it last.
