The rain started on April 2, 1962, around 10:30 AM. This was not terribly surprising to the residents of Oak Street, nor anyone else for that matter. What was surprising is when the rain did not stop.
Eventually, the residents of Oak Street moved away, tired of the unceasing rain. Scientists came to study the weather – the strange rectangular block of rain which never moved from that tiny residential street, nestled between Main Street and Rock Street.
It had been ten years since anyone had set foot within the rain on Oak Street.
Until today.
“Come on, Jimmy, do it!”
“What are you, chicken?”
“Bwaakk!”
The boys had no intention of setting foot inside the water wall, but little Jimmy, seven years old, he was going to do it.
“Come on, chicken! Do I need to shove you?”
Jimmy wasn’t chicken, but he was scared. Terrified, even. Rain like this, it wasn’t natural. But he was going to do it. He had to, for his honor.
He took a deep breath. On the count of three he would jump into the water wall.
One.
Two.
Three!
That was when the rain stopped.
