In case you don’t know, today it was announced that ‘Little Gray’ completed World of Warcraft [source].
The story, both monumental and pathetic, has taken the internet by storm.
Little Gray in real life is a hopelessly lonley, misunderstood, and deeply secluded Taiwanese man who is unfamiliar with concepts like family, friends, and sun, but in WoW he is a popular, adventurous, and awesome level 80 Tauran Druid who knows how to hug.
In WoW, Little Gray [小灰] is a power-player.
As such, I wanted to get inside Little Gray’s head at the moment he completed the MMO’s 986 achievements listed in the armory, at which point he had “killed 390,895 creatures, accumulated 7,255,538,878 points of damage, completed 5,906 quests (that’s 14.62 quests per day, apparently), raided 405 dungeons and hugged 11 players.”
But however much I wanted to experience Little Gray’s achievement with Little Gray, the best I could do was this imaginative comment JoeTheG left on reddit:
Little Gray leaned back from his desk and into the back of his steel fold out chair. A small sigh escaped his lips and a slight smile of accomplishment crept unto his face.
This was it. After all the months and years of dedication Little Gray had done it. He had long traded friends and family for raids and treasures. His heart beat fast and the urge to jump up and scream almost had won over, but Little Gray kept his composure. As much as he had wanted to, it was very quiet and a yelp of joy would certainly be out of place.
A graveyard of cup O’ noodle containers and empty mountain dew cans were strewn around the monitor almost as if they were an audience in a coliseum. They had watched Little Gray’s feats for their entire existence and now their spirits could depart to the next world.
An old playboy calendar on the wall with half the days X’d out read “November 2004”. The brunette model stood bent at the waist with her buttocks jutting out from her back in an obscene matter. Her crystal blue eyes gazed back seductively. When things were hard for Little Gray her eyes said “Little Gray, you can do it stud. Don’t ever give up”. True the calendar had gotten him through a lot of cold lonely nights, but now the eyes looked back asking “What now?”
Well, Little Gray, what now?
What now?
