It was recently revealed in my parent's town that for quite some time, the glass recycling program has not been recycling glass. In their area, you must sort your glass separately from all other trash, drive it yourself to the recycling center (it's at the dump, so no bigee), and put it in the special glass recycling container. After you do that, it's dumped into the containers destined for the landfill. Apparently, they were unable to find any takers for it when glass prices plummeted and didn't tell anyone because they didn't want to reduce participation because they had hoped to start recycling it again... but eventually they had to own up.

What's your take? Moral, immoral, or indifferent?

I remember Chicago used to take the special blue recycling bins and dump them into the back of the normal trash trucks. Saw that many times from the balcony of 5602 S. Drexel.

I don't know what goes through the mind of someone who trashes a beach or a mountain hiking trail. How hard is it to find a trash can or stuff your potato chip bag in your backpack to dispose of later? I think we have too many people with an entitlement mentality who believe someone will clean up after them. Or we just have a bunch of slobs.
