I like the way Joseph gives himself the time to exit the crowd and jot down a few notes in an alleyway. I don’t like the way Joseph cares little about cookery and much about the outside world.

I like the way the narrator calls Joseph “our man” before he receives the letter. Joseph is our man, our hero, our contact.

Or is he? Perhaps his line of work, like a doctor, requires a logical approach, varied knowledge and above all, a concrete explanation.
