    The effect of the slideshow, combined with the style of the photos and the dated vehicle itself make this seem like it actually happened quite a while ago. Actually, if you hadn’t included the Dolphin’s year, guesswork could probably place this into any of the past few decades!

    I think what you mean is that the Dolphin’s styling is enduring, indeed timeless.

    True story: pulling up to a house party in San Diego last week, hopping out the car, what do I spy but a capital dee Dolphin, 18-foot model, 4 cylinder, early 80s. Couldn’t tell if it had a soggy, half-frozen sponge for a mattress, or a strangely dry orange mold eating the back panel, or a bad gas leak, or a broken odometer, or a broken gas gauge, or an oil leak, or a squeaky belt, or a warped head cylinder, or no heat, or clothing for curtains, or a non-functioning stove, fridge, toilet, shower and sink. It could have been the one though, returned home to its native Pacific, navigating as if by instinct, wheezing through the Rockies and then coasting home in heaving, stuttering, sputtering joy, battered but never broken, or if broken, still rolling, rolling, rolling…
