Harvard Medical School has conducted a study comparing the effects of statin drugs and fish oil. The results show that fish oil is as good as statin drugs in reducing risk of cardiovascular disease but without the dangerous side effects of drugs.

One of the main causes of cardiovascular disease is what scientists call “silent inflammation”. This kind of inflammation is subclinical, it goes under the radar, and because it does not show symptoms like redness or pain it can go undetected for years until it shows up in the form of chronic disease. Fish oil keeps silent inflammation in check and thus reduces the risk of cardiovascular problems and chronic disease very efficiently.

Most Americans consume way more Omega 6 than Omega 3 fats. The ideal ratio for health is 1-1 to 4-1, but the typical American diet has a ratio of 20-1. Taking fish oil supplements that are free of mercury and PCV’s (please make sure of this!) or eating salmon, sardines and herring often has proven to be a very heart loving measure.
